Beautiful mosaics are made of broken pieces.
Lori Jenessa Nelson

Mosaic really does it for me. Overtly process based, progress from start to finish is unambiguous.
Its ridiculously satisfying, especially considering a lot of energy in tile work goes toward literally smashing sometimes very expensive and beautiful materials.
In some cases like production work or creation of large scale public installations, assembly is a team effort with a sewing circle environment, which is my absolute way to spend my time.
The complimentary techniques of arbitrarily smashing material and also intricately arranging it into a whole greater than the sum of it’s parts is delightful. Mosaic is my most direct route to the Zone, the special timeslip where at that moment, you’re right where you’re supposed to be.
I love reading this and imagining you in your zone ❤️❤️❤️❤️
